My New Blog about Literacy!

If it isn't apparent by now-I am such a literacy nerd. As a Literacy Specialist in an urban school district in California, I am particularly interested in community literacy, family literacy, and learning how to best teach my struggling readers (all of my students!).

Being passionate about literacy prompted me to start a second blog. This blog will be my professional blog taking up best literacy practices for teachers and families.

The blog is called Bedfellows and Pocketbook Companions, read along, if interested. I'd love any ideas you have about things you'd like for me to post about (or let me know if you to join in with the posting).

Here's the direct link: http://pocketbookcompanions.blogspot.com/.

XOXO,
Rebecca

  4. As a mom and not a literacy professional, I would love to see a recommended list of books (or what kind of books in general) based on age range. I searched for lists like this when my daughter was first born and all I could find were the award-winning book lists, which was great, but they were divided by what year the book won an award and not by age-appropriateness.

Also, what should I look for when I'm picking out books to read to my kids? Rhyming, repetitiveness, lots of words, simplicity?

  6. Just got another idea after reading your post about the Tell Me A Story Cards. Maybe you could review some products from Etsy like the busy books or quiet books that people make/sell (people will give them to you for free if you're posting on your blog about them, though they may require a certain # of followers).
